How to receive push notifications for alerts on your smartphone

The Natural Hazards Portal (NGP) for Germany itself does not provide any functionalities to have push notifications regarding the displayed alerts and warnings sent directly to your smartphone. However, the data providers contributing to the portal offer such functions to activate alert push notifications in their own mobile apps.

WarnWetter is the mobile app for weather warnings with which the Deutsche Wetterdienst (DWD), as part of its statutory duties, provides the general public as well as emergency responders in disaster management, civil protection and environmental hazard management with important information about the current weather and warning situation. Instructions on how to set up push notifications in the app can be found here (German only).

Meine Pegel is the official mobile app of the flood information portal for Germany Länderübergreifenden Hochwasserportals (LHP), which, jointly run by the German federal states, gives access to data of around 3,000 gauging stations across Germany. The app provides users with a quick overview of the regional or supraregional flood situation in Germany and flood information of the federal states. For information on how to set up push notifications, please refer to the instructions published here (German only).

Warn-App NINA is the official mobile emergency information and news app of Germany’s Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK). The app distributes civil protection warnings from Germany’s Modular Warning System (MoWaS) for different types of civil emergencies, such as release of hazardous substances, large fires, dangerous weather (warnings issued by the Deutscher Wetterdienst) and flooding (information provided by the relevant federal-state authorities). Instructions on how to set up push notifications in NINA can be found here for iOS (German only) and here for Android (German only).
